The Oscars

To be honest, it has been a long time since I last saw The Oscars, yesterday, for example, I completely forgot about them. So today's question is weather the Ocars are interesting anymore, and my answer shall be no. I'm sure they are pretty entretaining but this time I forgot and last time I fell asleep. I think it is interesting to watch the movies which were nominated, but sincerely, I think waching them is a bit...boring. I guess it's just me but in my opinion, they've become more of an excuse to show off in fancy dresses and assist to such a party.

Anyway, it's fine to watch them for a little while, I mean it only happens once every year, it might actually be worth it. Perhaps it is just that I haven't take the time to really appreciate them.

World War I

The Great War, WWI or The War To End All Wars took place in Europe. About 70 million soldiers took part in the fighting and about 60 were european.
What makes this war different form the others, is that it was faught in trenches. People fighting this war had to live in dugouts, waiting to be called to the front line to fight the German army. Here is more information about the life in the trenches, the trench system and the trench warfare.
And finally, here is an article about how it really was to live in a trench:

My honest opinion about emos.

Emos are just different. The fact that they believe in different things than most of the population doesn’t mean that they are wrong or that they are stupid, it’s just that they are very emotional. I wouldn’t harm myself, but this doesn’t mean that the fact that they do it is plain stupid. I don’t know their reasons, I don’t feel what they feel when they do it, so I can not judge them.
In some ways, I even like the concept. Many emos write to let out all their emotions, and as they are very deep, their writing is often true, very real, showing things as they see them, form a point of view that maybe we haven’t even considered.
I don’t believe I’ll go to “the black parade” when I die, but that doesn’t mean I’ll go to heaven either, so I can’t see why people criticize them the way they do.
I have nothing against Emos, the ones I don’t like are the POSERS. I think posers only like to be the victims and say they are going to kill themselves so people go and beg them not to do so. Posers only want to call attention. If you’re emo, that’s fine, you’re emotional and you do feel like the world is crumbling down on you, but posers… I mean, please, there are better ways to call attention than pretend you’re something you’re not.

Something I like.

Something I like can be many things. I've already written about reading, writing and playing the piano, but this is more specific... I'm going to write about a song I really like, Life for Rent by Dido.
I really like her songs, but more than the music itself, I like the lyrics; sepcially the lyrics of this one.

I haven't really ever found a place that I call home
I never stick around quite long enough to make it
I apologize that once again I'm not in love
But it's not as if I mind that your heart ain't exactly breaking.

It's just a thought, only a thought

But if my life is for rent and I don't lean to buy
Well I deserve nothing more than I get
Cos nothing I have is truly mine

I've always thought that I would love to live by the sea
To travel the world alone and live my life more simply
I have no idea what's happened to that dream
Cos there's really nothing left here to stop me

It's just a thought, only a thought

But if my life is for rent and I don't learn to buy
Well I deserve nothing more than I get
Cos nothing I have is truly mine

While my heart is a shield and I won't let it down
While I am so afraid to fail so I won't even try
Well how can I say I'm alive

If my life is for rent...

I truly like the first line which talks about how she's never felt like she belongs with anyone, or anywhere, but also she accepts that it's her fault for she has never been enough time to make anywhere feel like home.
If my life is for rent by this she means that her life is not hers and that she must start to do something to own it again.

The Notebook

The Notebook. (2004)

Starring: Ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams.
Director: Nick Cassavetes.
Running time: 123 min.
Drama, Romace.

¶ ¶ ¶ ¶

As an adaptation of the best-selling novel, The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks, this film comes to be about a touching “true love” story, and about how two people’s love can endure and grow with the time, no matter the distance.

The story begins with an old man (James Garner) who’s reading a story to an old woman (Gena Rowland), a story that apparently has a meaning for him. In this story, Rachel McAdams plays Allie Hamilton, a rich girl who comes to pass the summer in a small town; there she meets Noah Calhoun (Ryan Gosling) who is a hard working but poor country boy.

Despite their differences, he falls in love with her at first sight, and after Noah’s insistence on going out on a date, she starts falling for him too. When Allie’s parents begin to notice that hers is not only a summer love but something more serious, they decide to go back to the city and get Allie to start collage. It’s only after a long time, days before her wedding, that they get to see each other again. It’s then that they start to figure out what went wrong between them when she first left.

I really like the way this film is composed. Personally, I think that the movie is a little better than the novel, given that the events happen more dramatically and in a way that makes the audience understand Noah and Allie better. I think both Rachel and Ryan did an awesome job here, both connecting to their characters and showing how different they were and how deeply in love they fell. But in my opinion, Jan Sardi did the best job on the adaptation. Although the movie and the novel have many things in common, I think the movie is utterly fantastic. It made me cry, laugh, smile and the end is really touching, whilst in the book it is not. If you ask me, I think this is a movie everyone will like, men and women, teenagers and elders. I think everyone can relate to it in some way or another.

Cape Farewell

This year, our school selected two students to go to the "Cape Farewell" expedition along with 26 other students from other parts of the world. Their aim is to go to the artic and do something for the environment. I think this is great, an amazing experience for all them and I hope they'll be able to do something given this chance.
